There is noise coming from the engine gets louder during acceleration?

It is a lower pitch whining noise that increases during acceleration, is present during idling. Does not change with steering movement. It also seems like my van hesitates to shift to the next gear sometimes. 2007 Hyundai Entourage (automatic).
